Great British Icon

Icon is based in Mortehoe, Woolacombe, on the shores of the UK North Devon Atlantic coastline, near the infamous surfing beaches of Croyde and Saunton Sands. It has always been home to Icon Sports’ founder, Mark Ressel and is where he grew up surfing and racing ‘Spec’ skis as a member of the local Surf Life Saving Community.

In 2007 Icon began developing its own range of equipment and events, starting with ’Spec’ skis and the Icon Classic Race, now in its 6th year. In 2010, Icon launched its own ocean ski, the Genesis, a competitive ski, widely acclaimed for its comfort and stability – with the forthcoming launch of its second generation ‘G2’ Genesis series later this year, 2015.

At the same time, Icon is applying the same high standards to a new range of clothing and accessories, paddles and spraydecks, by only working with reputable manufacturers in their chosen field. Icon has also been rebranded to reflect these ambitions and reach of being Britain’s only ocean racing surf-ski manufacturer (perhaps surprising given its 7,000 miles of coastline!)

When it comes to manufacturing and design knowledge, Icon benefits from a wealth of experience through its partnership with Jeremy Coysh and Rob Falloy.  Jeremy has over 35 years of experience, working for both Baron Canoes and Kirton Kayaks.  Rob is a maritime surveyor and a renowned kayak designer.

This combination of paddling and manufacturing expertise, has resulted in Icon producing high quality craft that are extremely competitive and comfortable to paddle.
